Unnecessary Caesarean Section: Symbol of Dehumanization

What happens when a society forgets how to welcome children into this world? Why do modern birthing practices see expectant mothers as clinical patients? With a C-Section rate of nearly 70% at some hospitals, and a total average of 37%, South Florida has the second highest rate in the nation, and the United States tops the charts of surgical childbirth among developed countries. Will the mothers of the future know how to birth naturally again?

Squeezing Orange addresses three main points for change:

1) We must create more humanized birth practices through respecting informed consent and informed refusal during childbirth.

2) We must prevent obstetric violence against birthing women and the devastating maternal trauma it can cause.

3) We must normalize birth as a natural highly personal physiological process that, more often than not, does not require medical assistance.
